Description: The carving "Hope" is
a highly polished Serpentine (a harder stone than most soapstone).
The carving in a carving motif is a theme that is oft repeated by
the artist Jermome Ekinla. The Eagle, wolf and man figures are wrapped
around and into the stone, with the eagle pointed in an "uplifting
and hopeful" pose. The opposition between hope and hoplessness
(blackness), and the thin, diaphanous barrier that sometime seperates
the two solitudes, is what makes this carving seem somewhat impenetrable
and enigmatic.
Size: Hope is 11.5"x 5.5"x
3.5". The piece weighs approx. 2lbs.
